Its that time of year again! The annual lottery for Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) is just around the corner, so it is the perfect time to start planning your 2016 trip to the area. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is a 1,090,000-acre wilderness area nestled in the Superior National Forest in northeastern Minnesota. This area is wildly popular for canoeing and fishing and is currently the most visited wilderness areas in the entire United States.
Permit Lottery Details
But, you know all of that. If you have visited before, you are keenly aware of the beauty and all the area has to offer. So, this year, why not go ahead and invest in a 2016 permit so that you know that you will be able to access this area when you visit, rather than hoping that you can make a reservation at the last minute. The 2016 BWCAW lottery application period begins on December 16, 2015 and applications are accepted through January 12, 2016 at 9:00 p.m. CST.
The lottery is for the following entry points and dates: Fall Lake entry points D (Fall Lake and beyond) and 24 (Fall Lake); Moose Lake entry points F (Moose-Newfound-Sucker), G (Moose-Prairie-Basswood) and 25 (Moose Lake) for dates between May 1-September 30, 2016.
